I'm going into politics today. Today is Kent's birthday. He is two years old. With the current level of corruption in our nation's government today and the rate at which it is becoming even more corrupt, I wonder what will be left of America in twenty years when Kent is starting his own life. I could spend all of the kilobytes on the internet listing what is wrong with our government, but instead let me suggest a remedy. Let us get rid of career politics. We cannot have a single person in a single office who will choose against their own conscience and morals to gain or maintain votes. We cannot have an elected official who will create or support legislation that is morally wrong in order to preserve their "job." The probability of someone doing wrong to save their job is way too high. Here's what I propose: Let us have our contractors, plumbers, preachers, doctors, engineers, and other upstanding citizens of this country run for office. You don't have to be a politician to hold an office. You only need to be able to discern between right and wrong. Let these citizens take a leave of absence from their jobs for a short time in order to serve their fellow man, then let them return to their homes and their jobs and live in the world that they have helped create. I submit to you that if you are to be subject to the laws that you help create, those laws will be more carefully and gravely considered.
How do we accomplish this? Good question. Short answer: If you are an upstanding citizen of this good country, run for office. When you are in office, support what is right and oppose what is wrong.
Let us take over the government of our nation. America does not belong to its politicians, so why let them treat it as if it were theirs only. It belongs to us, its citizens. Don't just stand for what is right, do something to make what is right the norm.
I ask you, my fellow Americans, to help me make this country a place that we can be proud of again.
